WS Holland Performs at Country Music Hall of Fame
On August 28, 2015 the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum officially opened the exhibit: "Flyin' Saucers Rock & Roll: The Cosmic Genius of Sam Phillips". WS Holland, along with several other artists that recorded at Sun Studios, were invited to participate in the commemorating of one of American music's most influencial and impacting personalities: Sam Phillips.
Artists appearing on the Saturday, Aug. 29, concert in the CMA Theater included Sonny Burgess, Charlie Rich, Jr., WS Holland, Marvel Thomas (son of former Sun artist Rufus Thomas), The Valentines, Chuck Mead, Mark Collie, Luther Dickinson, and others.
A special "Q&A" session was held Saturday morning in the Ford Theater at the CMHOF where author Peter Guralnik hosted a celebrity panel consisting of WS Holland, Sonny Burgess, J.M. Van Eaton and son of Sam Phillips, Jerry Phillips. The panel of Sun Records alumni fielded questions from a capacity audience for over an hour.
A huge audience of enthusiastic fans attended the main concert Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm as the music of the heyday of Sun Records was delivered by the various guest artists. The video below captures just some of the events of the memorable weekend as a fair sampling of 50's music legends gathered to pay homage to, as Peter Guralnik's new book title reflects: The Man Who Invented Rock & Roll, Sam Phillips.
