We're Celebrating Two Milestones, Well...Actually Three!
First of all, it just occurred to me that 2016 marks my 62nd year in the full-time music business. Man, that's a long time for a guy who never dreamed of being a musician prior to going to Sun Records with Carl Perkins and his brothers, Clayton and Jay in late 1954 to meet Sam Phillips. We got a record contract that day and the rest, as they say, is music history.
The second milestone we are celebrating around here will take place on Friday, April 22. That will be my 81st birthday. If someone had of told me in 1954, as a nineteen year old just out of high school, that 62 years later I would celebrate my 81st birthday, 62 years in the music business and still be traveling the world playing music I would have thought they were out of their mind!
Just goes to show you.....you never know what life will place in front of you, and in my case, what wonderful opportunities may come your way. It has been a great ride so far and I look forward to the future and hopefully continuing to tour, play music and meet all the wonderful fans and friends that have made my life and career so exciting. For this I am certainly grateful.
Over the years I have had many opportunities to play on some of the industry's greatest records with Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash & The Tennessee Three, Carl Mann, The Statler Brothers, The Highwaymen and many others. This spring my record company released a recording project I am very proud of entitled, "Johnny Cash's Legendary Tennessee Three: The Sound Must Go On".
This release is a milestone for me as well as it is a tribute the Tennessee Three and I recorded in memory of our friend and boss Johnny Cash. Bob Wootten (guitar & vocals), Dave Roe (bass), and myself present ten of the most memorable songs done in that unmistakable TN3 style that accompanied Johnny Cash for several decades.
Be sure and check out the video below and listen to some of the songs from the cd, and if you want a piece of true American music history be sure to order a copy below as well.
As my special thanks for your doing so I will personally autograph the first 100 CDs sold and ship your copy to you immediately. Just watch the video below and follow the easy ordering instructions and get ready to sit back and relive some of our most prized musical memories as we pay tribute to Johnny Cash.
Thank you for reading this newsletter, and for helping us keep the sound alive!
